This page will be in english as it is mostly meant for people to see where the content went to from the whisky website I previously ran on this domain. I decided to stop running the website. There is a list of reasons why, but I have three main reasons. First is the current price of whisky. At some point you have to say, enough is enough. I prefer to spent this in other ways and just occasionally buy a malt. Secondly, the whisky community changed a whole lot over the past few years (and imho not for the better). And finally, I really can not find the time anymore. After taking care of our son, training and the natureguide course I hardly have any time left. So for now I prefer to put my time, energy & money into other things. Sorry! I did my best to give the content of the website a new home. Different webmasters had interest in different parts of the content so it is divided up a little. I always tried to pass on the content to a website I know is established well, and is viewing whisky at least the way I did :) This ensures the content will remain available for the community. If something does not show up yet on the new site, give the guy some time to prepare it ;) He most likely have to understand my terrible code and make it presentable! See below for what went where: VR Distilleries - I am proud to say the VR's will go to Serge's excellent whiskyfun.com website. Both Serge and his site need no introduction! The Virtual Realities were my favourite section on the site, so I am glad they remain to be available on a website as well known and liked as Serge's. Distillery Names - An article that got quite some attention on the website. I had several goals with this article. Goal was to first help people understand what the name of a distillery means. Second, help them pronounce it (oh the fun with newbees on festivals, hope I saved a few the embarassment). And last, debunk some myths. Some marketing departments just flat out change the meaning of their name for romantic/marketing purposes bypassing history and enough sources for proper translation. See Glenmorangie or Glenfiddich for prime examples. This article went to the excellent Whisky Cast website hosted by Mark Gillespie. Be sure to check out his podcast if you haven't already! Alfred Barnard - Eugene vd Meers' site already had a section on Alfred Barnards' book, but he linked the Scottish distilleries all these years to the respective articles on PeatFreak.com. Scanning them in from the book took me many days, argh, the memory on that task ... To add to the terror the scanning program did have some difficulties with the old font used in the book, so the articles have a few (consistent) errors. A few years after the scanning I worked them through (as most errors were consistent) with automatic search & replace and they are 'readable' now. I'm glad the whole book (with introductionairy chapters) is now available in one place, at Wormtub.com! The best of the rest - went to Whisky Portal by Dennis Klindrup. Dennis' website has been around for a long time already. It might not be the most friendliest website to look at, but the ammount of information you can find on it is staggering. I'm glad my articles, mousergame and everything else found a new home here. The whisky tasting notes program is now moved to a new party as well! Someone with good idea's for a new website showed interest and is currently working on converting it all into the format he has in mind for his new website. When that is done I will of course announce more news here. In the meantime I will leave the program as I distributed it here so you can still make use of that if you like. I strongly suggest however to move over to the new program as soon as he makes it available. The version I have here now is getting quite outdated and obviously some features do not work at all like submitting and requesting notes from this website. |
