Visit Scottish Single Malt Whisky Distilleries In Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality Distillery is a feature on PeatFreak that tries to let you explore the world of single malts from behind your computer. You are virtually standing on a point, where you can interactively look around you in a 360 degree fashion using your left-mouse button. We will try to add new tours as often as we can, so you can keep exploring the world of single malt distilleries of Scotland.

For the tours to work, you must have the Java Runtime Environment installed. If you can't see a "Panorama is being loaded" message you don't have the JRE installed. Help on installing the JRE and how to navigate in the tours can be found on the VR Distillery help page.

» Highlands
Edradour - A virtual tour through Scotland's smallest distillery. You can start your way at the entrance of the distillery, moving along to the tiny stillhouse and finally move further up the road to the area around the shop.

Blair Athol - In the heart of the highlands in the village of Pitlochry we can find Blair Athol. Blair Athol is in the heart of the Bell blend, and the distillery is chosen as the tourist headquarters for the blend. From the bridge you can either go to the courtyard, or the summit of Ben Vrackie, the water source of the distillery.

Glenlochy - Ceased operation in the 80's, but luckily the buildings have been saved and are being converted to guesthouses, an operation still ongoing in 2007.

Glenturret - Just outside of Crieff we can find Glenturret, one of the oldest still producing single malt distilleries of Scotland. You can start at the entrance, move the the marrying house or too the back, or have a nice view over the glen from the hillside.

Aberfeldy - Aberfeldy is the touristic headquarters for the Dewar's blend. You can start at the entrance, move over to the corner of the visitor center and finally take a look inside the stillhouse from the garden.

» Islands
Iona - It is believed monks from Ireland are the ones responsible for introducing distilling techniques into Scotland. The well known monk St. Columba landed on the isle of Iona where he helped introducing Christianity in the United Kingdom.

Talisker - Situated on the beautiful Isle of Skye this is one of the whiskies found in the famous Classic Malt series.

» Islay
Ardbeg - From the parking place wander to the courtyard and further to the warehouse. Or go inside to the unique maltbarn and then onto the washbacks and the stillroom. And of course don't forget the pier!

Bowmore - Stand on the pier of Bowmore. Look across Lochindaal to Port Charlotte, or up the main street to the round church. And there is Bowmore distillery itself too of course!.

Bruichladdich - This tour features nine VR point of view's in total. Take a look in the pretty stillroom, the classic mash tun, and wander around from the courtyard. Links to other point of views on this tour: gate, courtyard, shop, bottling-hall, warehouse, malt-mill, mashtun, washbacks and the stillhouse.

Bunnahabhain
- In this single point-of-view tour you'll be standing on the famous pier in front of the distillery, with beautiful view on the Paps of Jura.

Caol Ila - Stand in front of the warehouse, and look across the Sound of Islay to the Paps of Jura.

Lagavulin - From just before Dunyvaig castle you have a nice view over Lagavulin bay, and the distillery which represents the Islay region in the Classic Malts series of Diageo.

Laphroaig - Start of this virtual distillery visit from the pier at Laphroaig bay. See the germinating Barley and a working kiln in the background on the malting floors. And finally have a look at the stills in the stillhouse.

Lochindaal - The Lochindaal distillery is one of the two distilleries who used to operate in the village called Port Charlotte. Here a view from the beach in front of the warehouses in use as a youth hostel and Islay Wildlife centre.

Loch Uigeadail - When Ardbeg launched it's Uigeadail expression the interest was peeked for many connoisseurs in this loch. The walk to the loch goes over deserted bog land, and past the plague village of Solam. We start at the roundabout just in front of the distillery, to Solam, then after a short steep hike up a hill with a lovely view across Islay's south coast we will finally reach Loch Uigeadail.

» Speyside
Aberlour - This distillery is situated just outside the charming village with the same name at the heart of the Speyside. Its distillery tour is absolutely one that cannot be missed out on whenever you find yourself in the area. We offer a virtual one here that leads you to the still house, tunroom, warehouse and finally a look at the waterfall in its watersource.

Craigellachie - Not well known, this distillery can be found at the heart of the Speyside.

Dailuaine - Not one of the prettiest, but certainly not a distillery that can be left out this list of VR's, not just alone because it was the first distillery to use the kiln as we now see it all around Scotland.

Glenfarclas - One of the last independent family owned distilleries in Scotland, Glenfarclas is situated at the foot of Benrinnes. Start at the courtyard, wander through the washbacks to the stillroom. Or take a look at the nosing & tasting room, the unique shipsroom or take a virtual sniff of the angel's share in one of the dunnage warehouses.

Glenfiddich - Situated in the town 'built on seven stills' Dufftown, Glenfiddich is one of the better known distilleries. Start at the courtyard, and then move to the stillroom to see their impressive range of stills!

Glen Grant - Although the buildings may not be its strongest point for a virtual visit, the gardens behind the distillery certainly are!

Parkmore - For a long time the 'face' of PeatFreak.com. Beatiful both in its location and looks of the distillery itself.

Glenrothes - Situated opposite from a graveyard this has to be the most haunted distillery!

Gordon & MacPhail - Well known shop, independ bottler and owner of Benromach. Take a virtual look in the well stocked shop virtually here.

Quaich Bar - The Quaich Bar at the Craigellachie Hotel is world famous. Take a virtual look at its 700 whiskies on display.

» Etcetera
Cadenhead Whisky Specialist - Amsterdam - Right in the heart of the capital of Holland, my favourite whisky shop.

Penderyn - Wales - At the foot of the Brecon Beacons: the only distillery to be found in Wales.
