Not really close to a distillery tour, but definitely
not to be missed when being in the Speyside: a working cooperage that
welcomes visitors to see this old craft. And it even includes a dram at
the end of the tour! Although not always a single malt one...
After a video showing the history of coopering you will go to the viewing
gallery which is build around the cooperage and where you can walk freely
and watch the coopers performing their work below.
Guides are present which will explain the work below, or answer your questions.
As the workers are being paid per completed cask you can be assured there
is a lot to see. Once a cooper is finished a cask will be tested with
steam. In the back the apprentices are working on smaller casks learning
the craft.
A shop is available on site with wooden products of casks that have been
used to its maximum, like garden barrels for plants and wooden chips for
barbecuing! A cafe is also available.
