Bus 10 will take you from Buchanan bus station in the
heart of Glasgow to this distillery which is situated just above the lowland-highland
line. The buildings all look original, and the white washed look with
surrounding green from the fields and woods makes it all look like you
expect all distilleries to look like.
Walking up the site you eventually end up at a small waterfall which is
filling a nearby pond which is used to store the water which is being
used for cooling. During the tour the lady was keen to assure us the water
for the mash is being sourced higher up the glen however.
Before the tour starts we collect our complimentary dram in a room with
comfortable suits until the group is big enough to start the actual tour.
I had big expectations from the tour, as it was recommended highly from
several sources. But I have to be honest and say this was one of the most
boring tours I have ever been on. Our guide spoke which such a low volume
that I hardly understood a single word of what she said. And what I was
able to make our from all the production noise seemed nothing else but
the standard list of production explanations. Bummer, I bet we just had
the single tour guide which did not lived up to the expectations. Luckily
Glasgow is often our start or ending place for our vacations, so I am
sure to come back one day and try this tour again.
