This modern distillery on the isle of Arran is situated
just outside of Lochranza. The whole distillery consists of two square
building with ornamental pagoda rooftops. The first building is build
entirely for tourist purposes. Once entered you are greeted with a field
of barley and a little bridge towards a bothy where you will take place
at the start of the tour to see the a bit too commercial video. As always
it does have some nice scenery, so we'll take it for granted ;)
Next on the tour is the second building which is build for production.
The washbacks, mashtun, stills, all are conveniently situated in a single
room. Our guide, wearing Arran tartan, guides us swiftly from left to
right with the standard descriptions for the production processes.
Time
to head back to the first building for our complementary dram. The ladies
have a choice to have a whisky cream instead, something Sandra takes with
pleasure! Naturally, once the tour is over we find ourself in the shop
where they have a large collection of different goods related to whisky
and clothing. The restaurant upstairs can be recommended, the more so
as it has a wonderful view through the large panoramic windows.
A small tip: a little further up the road you can hike up a beautiful
glen to the water source of the distillery: Loch na Davie.

Found the island much more pleasing than the distillery (althuogh the whisky is promissing). Missed the "authenthic" stuff. Perhaps our guide didn't help as well. we had a "wee lassie in kilt" tour. Loch Ranza and it's castle are nice thuogh
